Music Analysis #2

Focus & Study Music
"Effective Alpha Waves" that improve concentration and focus: Relaxing studying music, focus boost.

This is actually a ton of non-lyrical and no word study music put into a podcast. As a mom of four kids, I have a loud house. My husband takes care of our kids while I study or I do a lot of my studying after the kids bedtime. This podcast has help improve productivity in studying and in the workplace. The reason I chose this podcast instead of an actual song or genre is because I haven't been spending as much time listening to music as I usually do. However, I have been leaning to this podcast and I have been noticing a drastic positive change in my studying time and productivity, so I hope it helps you!

Melody - The melody is very soft and elegant.  Relaxed and a little bit of moodiness. There is something in the melody that keeps you engaged with concentration, I believe it is the combination of the melodies with the soft transitions.

Tone - The tone of the podcast/music stays the same throughout the time. Which is the purpose and goal of the songs is to not bring too much attention to the music but to serve a purpose as a background noise for concentration. It has been very successful in that area for me.

The Dynamics of the podcast is soft and not loud, very gentle and not to harsh.

Texture - The three instruments that were heard most throughout the podcast were the piano, guitar, and I'm not quite sure what the other is. But they all tie together beautiful in a unique way.

Rhythm - The placements of the elements are sometimes all over the place but it still works in its own way. Which makes it very odd, because it normally wouldn't.

  1. Shaylin, I love that you chose music designed to help focus, that really stood out to me. I haven't actually seen a compilation of music put into a podcast episode on Spotify before, so it's cool that your post introduced me to that! I completely agree with your commentary on the melody--the way I feel it is as if there is always something going on. Different voices are changing pitch, but it's never at the same time. It feels like a natural waterfall effect.

  2. A lot of the time when it comes to studying background noise helps me. Music that I've listened to a lot usually fills that void just fine, but sometimes even that is too distracting. I tried this out yesterday while working on my writing class, and it actually worked really well. The monotony of the tone is unassuming - it helps block out extra thoughts while not being too distracting itself. It certainly does help with concentration, at least for me.
